Chief

My name is Chief, but I am not demanding. As a matter of fact, I am a low key / minimum maintenance kind of guy. Once you get to know me, you will so appreciate how happy I am with peace and quiet, 2 square meals with some treats thrown in, and a walk in the park. I am about 5 years old, having spent most of those at a shelter. It took quite awhile to diagnose that I was in pain, as I covered it up very well. During that time I had the reputation of not being friendly or affectionate because I didn't want to be touched. The truth is it hurt to be touched.

I have been in foster care with a Misha May trainer for 90 days and have done very well. With my pain under control through medication and walks for exercise, I am enjoying life very much, probably for the first time. I ride well in the car and, being a medium sized shepherd who barks when strangers approach, you can count on me to do what I was bred for - protect you. Otherwise I rarely bark, even when in the yard. I walk well on a leash, getting a little excited, but responding to yummy treats and your calm directions.

I love just hanging out. You can trust me inside at home while you are gone to work. I also love the snow and smelling the outside smells - remember, I have been cooped up a long time! I am extremely well trained. I do sit, down and all the rest. You will be amazed at how much you will be able to teach me. I have very nice manners and am completely house trained and crate trained as well. I have been trying as hard I can to figure out how to have a good doggie life.

My Misha May trainer says that I am succeeding. We are looking for a foster parent who is not necessarily a trainer, but who would adhere to my medication and training, continuing to prepare me for a forever home. My Misha May trainer says it is time for me to transition to another household where I can hone and polish what I have learned.

I would also be happy to entertain offers of adoption!!!!! My best home is where I am the only dog, as being bumped is not a pleasant thing, and I am tense when there is a lot of activity. I'm best without children, as well, for the same reasons. I really really want a yard with a secure 6 foot fence so I can hang out and smell and look around and explore to my heart's content. I have a lot of time to make up for.

I am looking for someone who wants a good friend who knows what it is like to finally have hope. I can really enrich your life and share my wisdom if you'll only allow me that honor.
