Grandpa

"I had escaped from my "nursing home" that was not taking care of me. When found wandering the streets, I was exhausted, I had a cancerous growth that had almost eaten away my entire lid, my teeth were atrocious and my nails were so long it was affecting my ability to stand correctly on the pads of my feet. (Just as a reminder of how important those pesky nail trims are).
Anywho, when I was a pup, dog food was 5 cents a bag and I had to walk to puppy school through snow that was 7 feet high...... what was I talking about?
Here comes one of the nurses that is taking care of me now at the MaxFund Clinic, I need to get a sponge bath. She'll tell you all about me:"
Grandpa Clarence is a wonderful old man that desperately needs someone to love and understand him like we do. Like some older folk, he suffers slightly from what seems to be dementia. Even though he has a tough time getting up at times, he will gallop and trot endlessly.
He should avoid areas with lots of stairs. He is a little head shy, so he needs someone that will be slow and gentle with him. This also may have a lot to do with his sight which is not ideal. Thanks to the wonderful eye specialist Dr. Hammond, the cancerous growth has been removed from his eye lid and looks great. He will continue to need evaluations on the eye just to make sure all is going well.
Like any oldster, he is on medication and vitamins for his arthritis and is also on an anti-anxiety medication that we hope will relieve some of his uncertainty. He sleeps very soundly. Sometimes frighteningly sound. He has a hearty appetite. He is a very strong man. After a long dental and many extractions, his teeth are in tip top shape. No dentures needed. He loves to be walked and if walked often, you should be able to avoid mistakes in the house. If left alone or locked up, he may bark because he gets lonely.
He needs someone that can spend time with him. Someone to take him through the rest of his years, however long that may be. If Grandpa Clarence was a human, he would have a shed filled with old keys, tool parts, and stacks of newspapers dating back to when he started life on his own, and where he listens to the radio and goes through all of his treasures. If he were a human he would be complaining here and there, and might be a little harder to love, but he is Grandpa Clarence, a Grand Golden Retriever.
Because he is such a great dog, his (occasional) grumblings are more than forgiven. If you would like to meet, visit or have questions about Grandpa Clarence, please call the clinic at 303-595-0532.
