Jake

N/M, 2 Years, SharPei/Bull Mastiff Mix, Approx. 55 lbs.
Hello Good People! I'm a very sweet, 49 lb. Shar Pei- Lab mix. I traveled all the way from New Mexico to find my great new forever home.
I'm loving, active, happy, and VERY handsome, as you can clearly see from my photos! (You can see more photos of me on my Dogster page H E R E !). I'm house-broken, house-trained, and just wonderful! I like adults and teenagers but no children in my family would be best since I am afraid of children.
Soon after I got to MaxFund I underwent hip surgery to correct an old injury. I have regained complete mobility and can walk and play just fine – although I can’t be anyone’s running partner. Also, currently, I need regular anti-inflammatory and anti-pain medication to control the pain and I may need such medication for the rest of my life. That is not too bad since the pills don’t cost very much and I take them like they are treats (a bit of cream cheese helps maintain that charade!) When I get to know you, I really enjoy my hips being gently rubbed and massaged but, come to think of it, I also enjoy tummy rubs and there never has been anything wrong with my tummy - I must just enjoy being loved!
I am always ready for a walk and for playtime but I also just like hanging out and I am happy to lie down for a nap if you need to type on the computer or some such thing! I like car rides too.
I have been in the MaxFund Champs Training Program where my volunteer-trainer tells me she is teaching me some more manners and helping me concentrate. You can ask my Champs Trainer (Juanita at juanita_ladyman@hotmail.com) about me. I happen to know she and her husband think I am a great dog. I do get quite protective of my special humans and you can ask the MaxFund folks for some information about how to help me control my protective instincts.
I would love a forever home. However, I am also hoping for a foster home to keep my hip strong and experience being in a household again. Want more information about the foster program? Please contact Donna at fosters@maxfundvolunteers.org
Please come by and take me for a walk. I am a bit shy at first and tend to like women more than men, but I will warm up to you quickly. When I get to know and trust you, you will find me a most loyal and loving companion.
