ZOOTOO CONTEST NEWS!
First, a recap of the zootoo contest for those who might have missed it. Around December, MaxFund started earning points to be a contestant in the Zootoo shelter makeover tour! Over 900 shelters from around the country competed and MaxFund finished in position #3! All shelters in the top 20 received a visit from the directors of Zootoo, $5000, and a chance at the million dollar makeover! April 25th was MaxFund's day for Zootoo's visit, and if you missed that day, and missed the info, check out www.maxfundvolunteers.org/zootooday.html for a recap of zootoo day!
We were informed by Richard that on May 15th in Orlando, representatives from the top 20 shelters would be brought on stage and given envelopes - 17 would have a check for $5000, and 3 would have airline tickets to New York where the winner would be selected May 21st on TV!
So you might be thinking... WHAT HAPPENED TODAY (May 15th when I started sending emails)?
Sadly enough, MaxFund was not selected as one of the top 3 shelters. But that doesn't have me down and don't let it get you down either - even without winning a million dollar makeover, we have won in so many other ways! Not only the city, but the whole country now knows what a great shelter we are and thats the type of recognition you couldn't buy with a million dollars if you wanted to. People who had never heard of MaxFund before, now know who MaxFund is and what we stand for!
The fact that we made it this far is a huge testament to the volunteers, staff, and supporters that MaxFund has behind us that when we put our hearts to it, WE DO AMAZING THINGS! Keep pushing, keep promoting, keep up the excitement we've seen in the last few months, keep telling people about MaxFund, keep helping out, keep raising money, and keep making it the best shelter around!
In the spirit of "Always looking on the bright side of life", Lets all make the best of this, and make a goal for ourselves of raising a penny per point earned on zootoo! Bring in your pennies, your dollars, your twenties, whatever, and we'll see if we can match our points in pennies! I am trying to find the total points earned (they took it off the site after the contest ended, if anyone remembers let me know), but I seem to recall it was past 150,000 which means if we could bring in a penny for each point we could still bring in a few thousand dollars, maybe more! Encourage your friends and co-workers to bring in their pennies (or nickels, or dimes, or quarters, or dollars, or twenties, or hundreds, whatever!) to MaxFund and it'll be put to good use, as MaxFund donations always are! See a penny on the ground? Pick it up, bring it to MaxFund! (don't make a special trip, the gas will consume that penny just by starting your car) and we'll make the most of it! Who knows, if we can get everyone to be super generous maybe we'll raise the money for that cattery after all!

While I've still got your attention, we've got a bunch of great events coming up and we can use a lot of volunteers help for!
- Arthritis Walk May 18th in Highlands Ranch - can still use some volunteers!
- Charlies Denver May 25th at Charlies on Colfax
- Crown Hill Cemetary Memory Day Pet Remembrance Event May 24th, 25th and 26th! About the only event we'll ask you to "dress up" for, given the location and event, but a great event devoted to pet loss. Wristbands will be provided by donation and MaxFund will receive the proceeds! We can use a few volunteers to talk up MaxFund and hopefully bring a few dogs ou
- Elephant Rock Bike Race June 1st in Castle Rock
- Lucky Mutt Strut July 20th at Washington Park - We'll need tons of volunteers as always doing all kinds of tasks! Can also use help before the event soliciting sponsors, passing out fliers, and more!
- Molly Dharma Run for MaxFund Motorcycle run July 27th - can use some pre-event help passing out fliers, soliciting goodies, etc.
